Mani Ratnam launches Music Awards

For the first time in the history of Tamil cinema, an award to recognise a musician has been launched. This is a joint effort by Social Media India and Sunfeast. Great director-producer Mani Ratnam unveiled the trophy for this award in a function held yesterday. The musicians will also get a certificate with the trophy.

There are plenty of categories in these music awards, including: best music director, best male playback singer, best female singer, lifetime achievement award, best sound recorder, best Tamil pop album, and best remix song.

The beauty of this award is that the winners will be decided by a voting system in which all can participate. A van carrying a ballot box will be doing rounds in 14 cities of Tamil Nadu; it will be stationed in various areas of these cities and will collect people’s votes. Also, votes can be cast online through select websites.
