Ilayaraja
Academy Award winner Gulzar (the lyricist shares the Oscar for ‘Jai Ho’ with A.R. Rahman) and musical maestro Ilayaraja will work together after a long gap of 25 years; the last time these stalwarts worked together was for Sadma, the Hindi remake of Moondram Pirai (Kamal Haasan-Sridevi).
The music of Sadma became very popular and the collaboration of Ilayaraja and Gulzar was highly regarded. Now, opportunity beckons these geniuses to give their best in a film based on the life of renowned painter Raja Ravi Varma. This biopic is being made by Ajay Varma (grandson of Ravi Varma), who is about to see his longstanding wish of working with Ilayaraja and Gulzar come true.
Ilayaraja will definitely give his best performance, as usual. Since he is joining hands with a recent Oscar-winning music composer, the results should be just fantastic. So there is no doubt this film’s music will stand out in the history of Indian Cinema.
PS: Maestro Ilayaraja has the distinction of being the first Indian to compose a symphony. He is also the first Asian whose symphony was performed by Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, headed by Lord Yehudi Menuhin and patronized by Queen Elizabeth!
