Time and again, Kollywood has stood up for several social issues and participated in philanthropic activities. It is very pleasant to see that this busy industry cares so much for others and is ready to help whenever needed.
After playing a prominent role in the Cauvery issue, it has turned its attention to the ethnic issue in Sri Lanka. Following a meeting amongst Film Producers’ Council, Film Directors’ Association and Nadigar Sangam, it has been decided unanimously that members of the Tamil film industry would gather in Rameswaram on October 19th in protest against the atrocities heaped upon Tamils in Sri Lanka and the Indian government’s inactivity in this matter.
Kollywood would also observe 3 day strike from October 18th to 20th. On these three days, the industry which never sleeps, will come to a complete standstill and members would wear black flags to condemn the genocide in Lanka and killing of innocent fisherfolk of Tamil Nadu by the Lankan Coast Guard.
